Norwegian Constitution Day [17th May]

Image courtesy of Gunn White at Stavanger Daily Photo

'The 17th' is Norway's 'Constitution Day'. It commemorates the day back in 1814 when Norway 'broke free' of Swedish rule, and became a nation in its own right. We have three active bloggers from Norway in the City Daily Photo community, one from Stavanger, one from Oslo, and the other from Bergin. There were others, but a number ceased blogging after the horrific shootings in July 2011.

If your ancestral roots are deep within Scandinavia, or if you simply have visited Norway and hold it close to your heart, consider joining in our celebration in honour of Norway's Constitution Day. The Linky is set to GMT-5 which is just a little west of New York. Using this time as my clock, the Linky is due to open at 8pm on Thursday 16th May, and close at 8pm on Sunday 19th May.

Please VOTE FOR JULY, over in the side-bar, after you link to your Norway post

What a wonderful postcard effect. I am looking forward to Norway Theme Day - it will be fascinating to see how CDP bloggers reference that lovely country.

Thanks, Chrissy. I am always surprised who participates and what they discover within their own community for our nominated country each time.

Just a small point of order, Madam Chairperson, but Norway did not separate from union with Sweden until 1905.

However, as I understand it, the constitution adopted on 17 May 1814 does declare Norway to be an independent nation. Legally, Norway was an independent state. Practically, Norway and Sweden had the same monarch, in line with the Act of Union which was dissolved in 1905.

Love that collage, and thank you for all the hard work for these theme days!

As some of you will realise, I monitor the list of entrants, removing those who are not members, and those that do not apply to the theme.

I noticed. Well done and thank you for looking after us all. Btw, super image put together by Gunn.

Yes, I hunted through Gunn's blog to find an image of Norway that was not too cliched, eg fjords. The pity is that Gunn is abroad at the moment.
